Character Creation

One of the things that I am working on as a writer, is improving my characters. I feel that your character is one of the many things that grabs a reader and makes them intersted in the story. If a character is to boring the reader will wander away. If the character is to one dimentional the reader will lose interest. Characters need to be created so that they are believable, and so that people can feel a connection with them. My favorite characters are the ones who are so close to life they feel like a best friend; some authors have made me walk away feeling as if I know their main characters inside and out. Characters should breath personality, and they should push the story forward. They should change with the story, and be more than just one dementional.

I have included a few links from people talking about Characterization for this article. The only way to improve on what you are writing is to read about it, think about it, and breath it for a while. Are your characters ready to grab your readers and hold your interests? If not follow these links to writers who can help you…

C.J. Cherryh - Strong Characters

John Hewett- Creating Memorable Characters

Writer’s Village - Character Building Workshop

James Kelly- You and your Characters

Notice how most of these are from Sci-fi Fantasy authors? Yes, I have a love of that particular genre. The thing of it is, characterization is important across the board, and all of these authors are professionals in their own rights. They had to start somewhere, and it was probably with learning how to craft a good story, and how to create a great, person grabbing, must read about character.

A Luna from Harry Potter Drabble….

51. Books

Luna loved books and the library almost as much as the Granger girl from Gryffindor. She was currently sitting in a secluded spot, with her feet tucked up under her and her wand behind her ear.

Luna twirled a strand of hair absentmindedly as she read, her mind intent on finding out information for her father’s paper. She was so intent on reading her own book that she hardly noticed when a thick and dusty book came soaring at her from the shelves above.

What she did notice was quick hand catching said book. And a very nice looking arm attached to the hand. She raised her eyes to see whom the hand belonged to …

Only to find Harry Potter looking down at her.

“You should be more observant.” He said quietly to her. “Never know what is going to happen in this place.”

Luna was left with only one question after Harry left. When did he get such nice arms?

She glanced at the book that had fallen from above. The title on the spine displayed “Hogwarts, A History.” She grinned at nothing in particular, turned the book upside down and to a random page, and started to read.

A List of my Favorite Draco/Ginny Fan Fiction.

In case you missed it, the defination of fanfiction is simply fans writing stories about their favorite fictional characters.

Tonight’s blog is going to contain a list of some of my favorite stories. I know, lists can be boring sometimes, but for you Draco/Ginny shippers who are looking for the next good read, this list is for you!

We’ll start with my very favorite Author, the one who got me into the whole thing in the first place.

Echo – Echo started my fan craze with the story A Drop in the Ocean. This classic Buffy/Harry Potter crossover was the reason I got into Harry Potter in the first place. It is a tale about two worlds colliding to go up against a common evil, and it takes the two universes and beautifully entwines them into a work of fiction to be proud of.

The sequal is Snake Charming. It is unfinished, and may never be finished, but its a good long read, and a prime example of how to do fanfiction the right way. These are just two of her charming stories.

You may find more stories at her profile page at Twisting the Hellmouth. I highly reccomend all of her fiction.

Another great crossover, and a must read is The Eighth Weasley. Willow gets a new family – and finds out she has more siblings and love than she ever dreamed she would recieve.

And another crossover, by the same Author, Frye that is well worth the read is Heir To Voldemort. Xander’s Mother has a past that she has never told anyone about. Xander’s family holds more secretes than he has ever realized, and Xander may be more than just the simple guy next door that everyone believes he is. This epic fanfiction takes place in both the buffyverse and the potterverse and we get to see how Xander would react to the magical world. I love this and the sequal “Legacy of the Fathers”.

There are many lists across the internet that can lead you all to D/G classics.

My Life on the Web – The Places that I tend to hang out.

I decied that I needed to detail some of my favorite places to be online. It is nice for people who are looking for me to be able to find me in the several areas that I hang out, and it gives everyone that I like a free plug. Plus, it gives me a way to lazily link to everything that I do. This website is slowly going to be converted to my main website, and I am going to be transfing items from other places over here. It just takes time, energy and effort to get it all done.

Now, I have already posted about my favorite mud. It’s , Malevolenceand that post can be found here.

My Livejournal can be found at the link in this sentance.

Dracoandginny.com is my very favorite Harry Potter site, with Draco/Ginny being my drug o’choice. A Defination of Fanfiction can be found here.

I also spend time reading fanfiction at Twisting the Hellmouth.com a fansite that caters to Buffy the Vampire Slayer Fanfiction.

The history of Draco and Ginny in the Harry Potter universe can be found here.

I read my news at Fosters.com, wmur.com and msnbc.com.

I spend time at other websites like craigslist, and majorgeeks.com. The rest of the time is random webserfing, writing, gaming and chatting.

I lead a fairly busy life both online and off. Eventually everything will be landing here so that it will all be at one centeral location.
