Fiction Factor.com – Website Review for Writers
Hi All! I hope everyone is having a great Monday.
I decided to review the Website Fiction Factor.com. This website contains articles about writing – they have everything from starting to write, the nuts and bolts of writing, writing short stories, writing novels and writing for specific genres.
It also displays links to its own writing courses. I haven’t tried them so I can’t tell you if they are good or not. I do, however, like all the articles and I have found them intersting and informative. I wish the site didn’t have quite so much advertising, but hey – I understand that we all have to make money somewhere.
I reccomend shifting through the articles and finding the items that are useful to you.
Daily Writing Tips (Website Review)
Hello everyone!
Are you aspiring writers who would like a constant feed of new tips and tricks on a daily basis? Do you constantly need to go looking for writing how to’s, grammar talk, and articals from a writer’s point of view? Dailywritingtips.com has articals about grammar, writing styles, how to’s, as well as articals about life as a writer. This website is one of my go to places when I am uninspired and I need a pick me up. It doesn’t always have content that is relivant to my need, but it does have a nice archive, the people are good writers, and the links will take me to places that I do need to be.
Go ahead and have a read. Its well worth it.
Mavolence – A H7 Mud & an intro to Mudding.
Hi all.
I am on a roll this morning. I noticed that the one link that I had, that wasn’t writing related, and didn’t have a review was to the Mud (Multi-User-dementions) that I play on a semi-regular basis. I figured that there are lots of you out there right now scratching your head and going “What’s a mud?”
Here is the answer, and my description of Malevolence for you.
Mudding (link opens to a wiki definition) is basically text based Role Playing – Dungeons and Dragons style. You see, World of War craft, Guild Wars, and all those other online games had to start somewhere – and they did. With text-based gameplay. People wrote descriptions for rooms, monsters and quests, and they plugged it all into some code, and away the games run. You can find more descriptive explinations of Muds at www.mudconnector.com, or even by googling them.
I just wanted to put Malev on my link list because I’ve had a 10 plus year love affair with the game. Malv (as the regulars call it) is a smaller game, but it has a strong place in the player’s affections. It was once run by a trio of creators – Shwaine, Darktoast and Xanax, but is now run by Shwaine. According to the Malevolence website it is “
Malevolence began running in November of 1995 and has continued to evolve and grow to this day. Having recently aquired a new server and host, Malevolence is better than ever. Whether you are a new player or an old friend, you will always find lots of amazing stuff as you enter our world.
Based on an extremely modified H7v2.08 mudlib, and running on an LDMud 3.2.11 driver, Malevolence runs with excellent stability on the Slackware Linux platform.” Malev has various features and a review from The Mud Connector.com can be found here.
I love Malevolence for the small player base, the great monsters, and the fact that its my “home away from home.” If anyone ever logs in, look for either my creator character Cassandra, or my Players, Ryna or Bethie. (I have a vampire clan leader, and a paladin, that way I get to be both good and evil)
New to the world of writing? Try Newbie-writers.com. (Another writer website review)
I started out this blog with the intent on reviewing lots of DIFFERENT things, and to use it as a place for me to practice writing, and create a place on the web.
It seems that what I review most is writing websites. The thing of it is, that there are so many ways to break into the industry I feel that it is probably useful for people to have a place to go to for links on writing sites. If that is the way my website turns out – hey thats ok. I think I’ll follow up on this thought on a different post, but for now, I present the review.
Newbie-writers.com is a website that is geared towards exactly what it says – newbie writers. You see, everyone has to start somewhere! The website contains articles by various people about writing, and the craft of writing. I particularly like the fact that it acknowledges that not everyone is going to be a good writer at first, but that if you take time to learn the craft, and connect with the writing world, and if you practice writing, you will get better. For instance – I know that the sentance I just wrote was a long run on, but I also know that anything I write a month from now will be much better! *Ok, so that was a bit silly of me, but hey, I worked 3rd last night.*
It is a good starting point, and has a little bit for every beginer.

Today on Oprah
Ok – I’ll admit it. I’m not a huge fan of Oprah. I don’t watch her every day, and as a matter of fact, I tend to avoid her more often than not. But tonight, as I was struggling to sleep (I work third shift, so yes, it is tonight for me) I happened to glance at the show. And the topic was riviting. It was all about learning to love yourself, and learning to appreciate what you were given. Oprah talked about her struggles with her weight, and what had become the most important thing in the world to her – giving herself balance. I was hooked, and I want all of you to know that if you never watch her, and you avoid her like I do – this is the ONE show to watch. Today’s show is it. You can still catch it on Oprah.com.
I can’t believe that I’m endorsing Oprah. I am, however, planning on taking away some of her advice. I plan on thinking about what I really want, about my relationship with food, and how I can change things. I need to make goals for 2009 anyhow – and she gave me hope and insperation. Its been a long time since I’ve been truly excited about an idea, so I encourage all of you to take part – watch the Monday show from this week, and be inspired to go out and decide what you really want.
